I’m not superstitious. But, numbers and patterns fascinate me, such as the modern use of 11:11 to make a wish.
Why?
Before the digital clock came into being, did anyone find that particular minute of the day or night, interesting? On the analog clock the minute hand points one tick after the number two and the hour hand points slightly past the number eleven. The hands are nearly at a right angle.

With the advent of the digital clock by D.E. Protzmann in 1956, however, that minute becomes visually interesting. There’s symmetry, a vertical appeal, 11:11. It is the only time of day that has four of the same numbers. For non-military time anyway, because the military time for 10:22 PM is 22:22, which does not have the same clout.
Where is the elegance and upward trajectory in the footed curve of the numeral, 2?
Numerologists adopted 11:11 as a significant number in the eighties and nineties, with New Age advocates keen on its mystical properties. The number is referred to as an angel number and consists of a repeating digit or sequence, such as 777 or 3131. Like me, some find this mathematically interesting. Others believe there’s spiritual significance. A good omen. It’s auspicious so make a wish.
Not unlike the latest model car or pair of running shoes I purchased, once I started hearing about the make-a-wish time of 11:11, I began to notice it more often.

In recent weeks, it occurred to me that perhaps the number is rooted in November 11. The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month was Armistice Day and the end of World War I, November 11, 1918.
Could it be, the angel number 11:11 has a connection to Veterans Day? It does not appear so. Every year on November 11 or 11-11, Americans remember and honor those who served in the armed forces. Outside of the US, 11-11 is observed as Remembrance Day. It seems fitting that this date of remembering and reflection is also recognized as an angel number.
The historic day marked the end of WWI or the Great War, a war of 30 nations which resulted in the deaths of an estimated 15 to 22 million people. Such a day would be more than fair to call angelic, divine, auspicious. Indeed an angel number it was and is.

On this day, a heartfelt thank you to all those who have served in the Armed Forces. It has been the great privilege of my life to know you and to count many of you as family, friends, and acquaintances. To all readers, thank you for taking the time to read the TreeHouseLetter, and please take a moment to consider the ever-widening military gap between the armed forces and the society they protect, with a waning percentage in the US Congress.

FOOTNOTES
*On Veterans Day, we honor those who served in the Armed Forces. This differs from Memorial Day when we honor those who died in service to the nation.
*Just fifty years ago, at least 70 percent of the US Congress had served in the Armed Forces, many seeing combat in WWII and Korea. The number is a comparatively small percentage (17% to18%) who are veterans today, though there is a slight uptick in the next Congress (119th).
